Awake Intradural Carotid Artery Occlusion in Two Case of Giant Cavernous Segment Aneurysms, Done for The First Time in Cameroon

چکیده
Vascular neurosurgery has been established through an on-site fellowship programme in Cameroon. With a less technically sophisticated basic equipment, high quality surgeries with good outcomes could still reached. We present two cases of big cavernous-segment aneurysms treated by distal ICA-occlusion awake surgery. To our knowledge these are the first neurosurgical procedures

Resolution of Symptoms after Parent Artery Occlusion Treatment for Giant Cavernous Carotid Artery Aneurysms
Background and Objective: Giant cavernous carotid artery aneurysms (CCAAs) often produce a variety of neurological deficits, primarily those related to ophthalmoplegia/paresis and headache. This study was designed to evaluate the resolution of symptoms after parent artery occlusion (PAO) treatment for giant CCAAs. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed a series of 17 consecutive giant CCAAs treat...

An 84-year-old female presented with bilateral giant intracavernous carotid artery aneurysms manifesting as right total ophthalmoplegia and trigeminal nerve paresis. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed the two aneurysms as one fused mass, so the initial diagnosis was a parasellar tumor occupying the bilateral cavernous sinuses. The correct diagnosis required cerebral angio...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Endosaccular coil embolization and parent artery occlusion (PAO) are established endovascular techniques for treatment of cavernous carotid aneurysms. We performed a systematic review of published series on endovascular treatment of cavernous carotid aneurysms to determine outcomes and complications associated with endovascular coiling and PAO of cavernous carotid artery ...
